To start a brand-new screenplay on page one…

First, log in. On your Dashboard, find the Screenplays section and click the yellow New Screenplay button at its top right:

That opens the Create New Screenplay popup, which starts by asking how you would like to start. Click Blank Screenplay. The other two buttons are for bringing in a script you have already written — see How do I upload an existing script?

Tick I agree to the Script Upload Agreement and click Next:

What is required, even for a brand-new script?

Only three things:

• Script Type — Feature Film, 1 Hour Episodic TV, Short Script, Stage Play and so on. It is the first field on the Vitals step.
• Script Title — also on the Vitals step. For a TV script this is the title of the series, and you can add the episode’s own title below it.
• At least one genre, and up to three, on the Genres & Tags step.
• Everything else — the writers, logline, synopsis, author’s notes, tags and poster — is optional, and can be added or changed at any time later.

Creating it

From the Vitals step on, a Create Script button sits beside Next, so you do not have to go through every step. Choose the type and enter the title, click Next to the Genres & Tags step to pick a genre, and click Create Script. If something required is still missing, the popup takes you to that step and tells you what it needs.

You will be taken to your new screenplay’s summary page. Click Edit Script at the top right to open it in our editor and start writing — see A few words on our script editor. When you return to the Dashboard, it will be in your Screenplays listing.
